Ben Robertson - The Sweetness of Mary (Joan MacDonald Boes) - Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar
Last October I went to the beautiful coastal town of Ullapool in the North West Highlands of Scotland. I attended the Ullapool Guitar Festival, where I first met this guitar, and also had one of the best music sessions of my life in a pub called The Arch. It was at this session that I first heard this beautiful strathspey, The Sweetness of Mary, from the playing of Mairearad Green. It seems fitting that this is the first tune I have arranged on this guitar!
Moonshiner - Ben Robertson and Ellie Gowers
Really enjoyed collaborating with Ben the first time round so we decided to do another. No one seems to know where this song came from. Some believe Ireland, others: America. I have always known the Bob Dylan version with the very lovely melancholic harmonica, but The Clancy Brothers and The Punch Brothers have also done stellar versions. Here we are singing our own version. Enjoy and please share!! :)
Ben Robertson - Hobed o Hilion / MacLeod's Farewell
This is my arrangement of two celtic tunes. The first, Hobed o Hilion, is an old Welsh tune, who's title roughly translates as "The Bucket of Grain". The second, MacLeod's Farewell, is a stunning tune written by Donald Shaw. It's often played faster than this as a reel in sessions.
Farewell to the Gold (Ellie Gowers & Ben Robertson)
Amidst this chaos currently unfolding, Ben and I had a gig cancelled that we were supposed to be doing together. This was the song we had planned for the 'encore', so we thought we would record a collaboration video of it and share it with those who had bought tickets. It's a good chorus song, so singing along IS encouraged!!
